Many ICM Geelong cabinetmakers work with decorative surface products from polytec, an Australian distributor of cabinet doors, panels, benchtops and laminates.
Our cabinetmakers are particularly excited about polytec’s new super matt MATERA range. In this blog, the team from polytec explain why the range is so popular.
polytec’s new MATERA stone prints combine a super matt finish with the cool appearance of honed stone – marble, travertine and cement – and an element of surprise, being warm to touch.
Available in BENCHTOPS and laminate, MATERA is designed to mix and match within its own range and together with WOODMATT, to give 24 exciting additional colours and two finishes in the core polytec laminate and melamine ranges.
polytec wanted to create a collection of beautiful quality stone prints to work with the recent launch of WOODMATT embossed matt timber prints collection.
Where are surface material trends heading?
Timber and stone being specified together is where we see trends headed for many design environments – from residential kitchens and bathrooms to breakout areas in a commercial office space.
Use of an additional process to manufacture the laminate – that is unique in Australia – gives MATERA a colour sensitivity and pattern effect that closely resembles the look and feel of honed stone. The advanced qualities of MATERA’s durable, super matt finish offers superior abrasion resistance and ease of cleaning.
MATERA is available in both laminate and board for use on horizontal or vertical surfaces – joinery, walls and benchtops.
The larger veined patterns of white marble style Calcutta D’oro and Calacutta Grey could be used as a striking hero statement on an island bench and teamed with a more subdued grains for a perfect, modern design combination.
Or for an on-trend, refined cement aesthetic, there is the travertine-style Tunisia Stone and Navona Stone, which feature a slight diagonal grain or the less-veined, pink toned Portland Stone, Grey Cement and Dark Cement through to the warm black of Athena Stone.
polytec’s development of WOODMATT and MATERA takes “that next step in advancing laminates and melamines – to offer a visually attractive, quality, and budget-friendly, core laminate option, when a stone or timber look is desired.”
