Geelong Cabinet Makers promote local manufacturing & give-away a $15,000 kitchen
Banding together, cabinet makers and suppliers from around Geelong, Surf Coast and the Bellarine have formed a group called Independent Cabinet Makers Geelong (ICM Geelong).
The group has launched a ‘made locally for you‘ promotional campaign with brand supporters, Dani Wales and Dan Reilly, contestants from the TV series, The Block. As part of the launch, ICM cabinet makers and suppliers will work together to provide a home kitchen improvement to the value of $15,000 for one lucky competition winner.
Offering alternatives for customers, ICM is a great example of small business working together to promote local manufacturing.
“When buying from a local manufacturer, you are supporting Geelong manufacturing and many of the proud family-run businesses in the area,” says Sean Blood owner of Newgrove Benchtops.
“When mum and dad want a new entertainment unit for example, they are likely to head to one of the larger department stores. However their local cabinet maker is good for the job,” says Sean.
“Projects such as ICM are important to the manufacturing sector in Geelong,” says Chamber of Commerce CEO, Bernadette Uzalec.
“The industry has many family based businesses that have been in the region for years and are now handing over the baton the next generation. We need to ensure there is a future for cabinet makers in Geelong and that jobs are secure”, says Bernadette.
Sean Blood who supplies benchtops to cabinet makers, says the project is also about client education and showing that cabinet makers do more than just kitchens and bathrooms.

When it comes to kitchens, bathrooms and alfresco entertaining areas, some of the work being done by cabinet makers in our region is outstanding.”

Custom made, custom fitted with competitive pricing, occasional furniture, desks, bookcases, wine racks and even fish tank cabinets can all be manufactured right here in Geelong.
